BCS Failure

The failure of the BCS is killing what college football could become. Everyone think about their favorite sporting events. People would say things like the World Series, Super Bowl, the World Cup, and above all to me March Madness. What do these things all have in common? They all have a playoff of some sort to get to the championship game. This gives the sport a true champion. This is what I love, the best teams playing against each other to decide a true champion. The heads of College Football keep ruining the end of great seasons every year. They say that if we have a College Football playoff it would ruin the regular season, and everyone wouldn’t play as hard. This is just s copout to me. They say look at the regular season in College Basketball, “no one cares who wins and loses; they don’t even play hard all the time.” Someone in the BCS committee said that. I watched the Kentucky vs. Connecticut game and I can tell you they played hard the whole time. I also don’t think UCONN was too happy they lost.

If there were a College Football playoff this year it would be a great spectacle. In my way you would just have the top 8 teams in the BCS playing against each other. So this year you would have: 1. Alabama vs. 8. Ohio State 2.Texas vs. 7. Oregon 3. Cincinnati vs. 6. Boise State and finally 4. TCU vs. 5. Florida.

You’re telling me College Football and the respected Conferences wouldn’t make more money this way? Get out of here with that talk

  1. This year is a perfect example of why the BCS needs to be restructured into a playoff system. There were 5 undefeated teams at the end of the season followed by one undefeated team getting beat by the other the SEC championship game. Unfortunately we will not see a playoff system for a long time because I believe the television rights are not up until something like 2012. Plus with big schools get automatic bids for winning their conference and there is a lot of money involved when someone is going to the Rose Bowl or any bowl for that matter. I am not sure they would be willing to give up that cash incentive for just appearing in the game. Its too bad because I believe this would have been one epic college playoff between the top 8 teams in the BCS.

  2. Did you come up with that draw? Why did Ohio State have to play Alabama? This does seem like it would have been the perfect year to have an 8-team play-off, because otherwise there is no way that all the undefeated teams will be satisfied with the outcome of the Bowl series.
